I’d also like to add UtopYA Con held in Nashville, TN. This year it’s being held from June 18-21, at Millennium Maxwell House Hotel. We’re in our 4th year and have quadrupled in attendance thanks to the book community of readers, authors, and bloggers. We have three days’ worth of educational panels (on all topics ranging from publishing to marketing to finances and more), as well as the popular UtopYA Awards, daily exhibitions where readers meet their favorite authors, and an open to the public signing that Saturday where we accept $5 or book donations for local charity Book ‘Em.
Also, there are three recreation areas under the purview of Georgia's Wildlife Management and Wildlife Resources Division: the 22,000-acre Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area, 11 miles northwest of Ellijay; Cohutta Wildlife Management Area, 15 miles northwest of Ellijay; and Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area, 6 miles west of Dawsonville. Each offer activities such as hunting, camping, fishing, canoeing, hiking, bird watching, picnicking and horseback riding. If you prefer to stay even closer to home, Ellijay's River Park is a picturesque recreation complex on the banks of the Coosawattee River, offering picnic areas, tennis, swimming and seasonal sports facilities. Cane Creek Falls is a beautiful waterfall on the site of Camp Glisson Retreat Center in Dahlonega, which is open to public when no retreats are in session.
